Pathways Counseling Center is growing and expanding to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, trauma-informed mental health care.

Our First Responder & Military Mental Health Program is dedicated to supporting the brave individuals who serve our communities and country. We understand the unique mental and emotional challenges faced by police officers, firefighters, EMTs, dispatchers, veterans, and military personnel — and we meet them with respect, confidentiality, and culturally competent care.

We are seeking a Clinical Trainee (pursuing licensure) to join our expanding, mission-driven team of professionals who are passionate about helping those who protect others.

Our Services

Pathways offers a wide range of trauma-informed services specifically designed for first responders and military personnel, including:

  • Individual Talk Therapy
  • Couples Therapy
  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
  • Group Therapy & Peer Support
  • Critical Incident Debriefing

Position Overview

This is an independent contractor position—not a salaried or benefits-eligible role.

Our ideal candidate is a compassionate, motivated clinician who is passionate about supporting first responders and military personnel through resilience-building and trauma recovery work.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide psychotherapy to adults (18+) through telehealth and/or in-person sessions at our St. Paul office.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments as needed.
  • Attend supervision sessions and monthly professional meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system.

Supervision

Free clinical supervision is provided toward the following licensures:

  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

Supervision is provided by Pathways’ qualified, trauma-informed supervisors.

Contract Details & Compensation

  • Independent Contractor status: paid time off and health insurance are not provided.
  • Flexibility: Create your own schedule and balance remote, in-person, or hybrid work.
  • Commitment: Minimum one-year contract.
  • Caseload: 20+ sessions per week (with option to expand).
  • Compensation: Flat-rate reimbursement per service, plus travel reimbursement (if applicable).
  • Bonuses: Hiring, mid-year, and end-of-year bonuses available.

Professional Development

  • Monthly trainings on topics such as trauma recovery, stress response, resilience, and crisis intervention.
  • Access to free CEU-approved trainings to meet state licensure requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or social work.
  • Experience or strong interest in working with trauma, crisis, or first responder populations (preferred).

Additional Requirements

  • Professional liability insurance.
  • Laptop and secure internet connection.
  • Minimum two years of sobriety.
  • No record of felony or gross misdemeanor.
